5/18/2026 0 Comments Shaler graduate Colleen "Chaos" Davis set to return to the ring June 13 in JohnstownColleen Davis will return to action June 13 at the Rumble by the River III event at the Pasquerilla Center in Johnstown. Davis, a Shaler graduate, will return to the ring after a nine-month absence.
Davis, who is 4-4-1 on her career, last lost to Chiara Dituri during a fight at the The Suffolk in Riverhead, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 2025. Davis won the American Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Super Featherweight championship in July 2023. During the course of her career, Davis, who trains the Ray Schafer Boxing Association in Sharpsburg, has made a career of having a difficult strength of schedule. At the Johnstown event, Davis will take on a fighter who has fallen on hard times. Davis will fight Lauren Michaels, who fights out of Hollidaysburg, is 2-7 overall and has lost her previous six bouts. Davis will be pursuing her first win since 2024, currently riding a three-fight streak without a victory. Davis had a pair of close fights with Elise Soto in 2025. The first of the two bouts was ruled a no contest after Davis couldn't continue following an incidental clash of heads. Soto won the rematch in a split decision. 4/29/2026 0 Comments penn hill senior amon hawthorne announces commitment to play basketball at slippery rock universityAmon Hawthorne wanted to find a way to play basketball in college at the highest level. During Hawthorne's senior season with Penn Hills, he made it impossible for anyone to not pay attention to what he had to offer. Hawthorne averaged 21.1 points per game to help the Indians advance to the second round of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs.
Hawthorne topped 1,000 points in his career during the postseason to become the first Penn Hills player since Daemar Kelly to reach the mark. Penn Hills won the Section 1-5A crown and finished with a 20-8 record overall with an 11-1 mark in section. Hawthorne scored a season-high 44 points in a loss to Thomas Jefferson in the WPIAL quarterfinals. Slippery Rock finished last season 17-12 and 10-10 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Plum outside hitter Bryce Nabozny saw something Tuesday night that he may not likely see again. Fox Chapel boys volleyball coach Phil O'Keeffe protested a ruling by the officials. They dug into their bag, pulled out a rulebook and looked for an interpretation.
Turns out he was right. It didn't help the Foxes chances much. "That was the first and I'd be shocked if I see it again," Nabozny said. "The funny part is that it killed their momentum completely because they were worried they were going to lose a point." Plum shook up the race in Section 4-3A by sweeping the Foxes. I will have a few stories coming up in the Plum Advance Leader and Fox Chapel Herald.
There are no guarantees that Alex Tecza or Eli Heidenreich will ever play a snap in the NFL. But the Mt. Lebanon graduates will have the opportunity to continue their journey together. Tecza was invited to the Steelers rookie minicamp. Tecza, who like Heidenreich graduated from the Naval Academy, help the Blue Devils win the WPIAL and PIAA football crowns in 2021. Heidenreich's path to the pros seems a little more likely. He was highly regarded enough that many people expected him to be drafted, if not by the Steelers, then by someone else. Tecza, a 6-foot, 199-pound running back, was consistent performer for the Naval Academy. He rushed for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Tecza averaged 5.7 yards per carry during his senior campaign. Tecza rushed for 2,228 yardds and 23 touchdowns during his career. He averaged 6.0 yards per carry as a sophomore. Lebanon, naval academy graduate eli heidenreich gets picked in seventh round by pittsburgh steelers
Eli Heidenreich being selected in the seventh round of the 2026 by the Pittsburgh Steelers may not be the most impressive accomplishment he's had in football. The Mt. Lebanon graduate has knocked down plenty of seemingly out-of-grasp obstacles on his way to having a shot to play professionally.
As a senior in high school, Heidenreich helped Mt. Lebanon win its first PIAA Class 6A championship in school history. The Blue Devils, who were led by coach Bob Palko and had a future teammates of Heidenreich's at the Naval Academy, Alex Tecza, on the roster. In the state championship game, Mt. Lebanon knocked off Saint Joseph's Prep, which has dominated the state's largest classification in football for years. Once Heidenreich made it to college, he spent his time rewriting's Navy record book in receiving. That isn't easy to do at a program that is best known for its run-heavy option rushing attack. During Heidenreich's season season, he set the single-game school record for receiving yards with 243 against Air Force. Heidenreich finished with 941 yards for the season, which is also a school record. Heidenreich set Navy career record for receiving yards with 1,994 and receiving touchdowns with 16. Mt. Lebanon has 10 alumni who have played in the NFL, with the most recent being Detroit Lions offensive lineman Colby Sorsdal. Josh Rizzo is the editor and publisher of Pittsburgh Preps and Colleges. Jaden Dugger took a leap of faith to go from Georgetown to Louisiana.
The Penn Hills graduate saw all of his hard work pay off Saturday at the NFL Draft. Dugger, who is a linebacker, was chosen with by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round with the 154th overall pick. Dugger had a breakout season with the Ragin' Cajuns last season, finishing with 125 tackles. Sixty-four of Dugger's tackles were solo tackles. Dugger also recorded four sacks, forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. Dugger recorded a season-high 16 tackles against Louisiana Monroe and Southern Miss last season. Dugger originally went to Georgetown out of high school to play safety. After Dugger played two seasons with the Hoyas, he chose to transfer to Louisiana. Dugger will look to be the 12th player from Penn Hills to suit up in the NFL. Aaron Donald, the All-Pro defensive lineman for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, was the last. He retired following the 2023 season. Josh Rizzo is the editor and publisher of Pittsburgh Preps and Colleges.
