3/21/2026 0 Comments meleek thomas, john calipari move onto the sweet 16 with arkansas men's basketball teamJohn Calipari avoided becoming a victim to perhaps the most feisty of all of the mid-major entrants into the NCAA Division I men's basketball championships Saturday night. Calipari, a Moon graduate, help the fourth-seeded Arkansas men's basketball overcome High Point with a 94-88 victory at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The Razorbacks only led by one point at halftime and the game saw 15 lead changes, 10 of which came after halftime. Former Lincoln Park standout Meleek Thomas scored 19 points for Arkansas. Thomas spent a few seasons with the Leopards before he transferred to play for Overtime Elite Academy in Atlanta. Thomas has had a standout season playing for Arkansas, being named to the SEC All-Freshman team. The win puts Calipari back in the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. Calipari has gotten back on track at Arkansas. Two of Calipari's last three losses in the NCAA Tournament during his time at Kentucky were to mid-major programs. The Wildcats were eliminated by Oakland in 2024 and St. Peter's in 2022. Josh Rizzo is the editor and publisher of Pittsburgh Preps and Colleges. Lincoln Park senior Josh Pratt will be making his college decision this week. Pratt, who was voted the PIAA Class 3A player of the year last season while at Aliquippa, has a number of Division I offers.
Pratt made the move to Aliquippa following a wild offseason for the Quips. Aliquippa parted ways with coach Nick Lackovich after the program reached the WPIAL final and PIAA semifinals last year. Pratt helped the Quips win the WPIAL and PIAA title as a sophomore. Josh Rizzo is the editor and publisher of Pittsburgh Preps and Colleges. The annual wave of PIAA and WPIAL transfer hearing meetings are already causing a lot of headaches for athletes, administrators and sports fans around the area.
The WPIAL and PIAA agreed that Bishop Canevin's Brady Wagner will be ineligible for this football season after being ruled as having transferred due to "athletic intent." Wagner enrolled at Bishop Canevin and played baseball for the Crusaders last spring. Another piece of transfer news is likely to cause waves soon. Former Seton LaSalle standout Khalil Taylor enrolled at Pine-Richland. There will be pressure on the district and state to be consistent with their rulings. There has already been plenty of clamoring about decisions made over the past few weeks. Here's a look at some of the other notable decisions:
